The Royal Hospital was founded by King Charles II in 1682 as a refuge for soldiers “broken by age or war” and has provided a home, care and comradeship for veterans of the British Army since 1692. Today, around 300 Army veterans live at the Royal Hospital, including those who have served in World War II, Korea, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands and Northern Ireland.
